Itching and Scratching in Pets

Itching (pruritus) is the most common skin-related reason for vet visits. While occasional scratching is normal, persistent itching that disrupts sleep, causes hair loss, or leads to skin damage needs veterinary attention. The three most common causes are allergies (food or environmental), parasites (fleas, mites), and skin infections.
