Feeding by Life Stage
Puppy
Medium-breed puppy formula. 3 times daily until 6 months, then twice. Avoid overfeeding — slow, steady growth is ideal.
Transition to adult food: 12 months
Adult
Only 800–1,200 kcal/day. Two meals daily. Use brachycephalic-designed bowls or wet food.
Senior
Further reduce calories. Joint support is critical. Keep weight lean for breathing and joint health.
Dietary Considerations
Highly allergy-prone — commonly react to chicken, beef, wheat, corn, soy. Limited-ingredient or hydrolyzed diets may be necessary. Omega fatty acids help skin fold health.
What to Look for in a Food
Limited-ingredient formulas, novel proteins, omega-3/6 for skin, glucosamine, probiotics, moderate-to-low fat (10–14%).
Weight Management
Weight control is the most important dietary factor. Extra weight directly worsens breathing, overheating, and joint pain. Bulldogs do not self-regulate food intake.
