No — Toxic to Cats

Can Cats Eat Onions?

Onions are highly toxic to cats — even more so than to dogs. All forms (raw, cooked, powdered, dehydrated) can cause oxidative damage to red blood cells and hemolytic anemia.

📋Nutrition Notes

Contains N-propyl disulfide and thiosulfate compounds that are toxic. Cats are more sensitive to these than dogs.

🥄Serving Guidance

No safe amount. Check all human food for onion powder before sharing. Baby food often contains onion powder.

⚠️Risks to Know

Can cause hemolytic anemia, weakness, breathlessness, reddish-brown urine, jaundice, and organ failure. Even small, repeated exposures are cumulative.

Emergency Contact

If your cat has eaten onions, contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to appear.
