Can Dachshunds Eat Bananas?
Bananas are safe for dogs in moderation. They are high in potassium, vitamins B6 and C, and fiber. However, they are also high in natural sugar, so they should be given as an occasional treat.
🐕 Dachshund-Specific Guidance
Dachshunds are a small breed (11–32 lbs), so portions should be very small compared to larger dogs.
Dachshunds are prone to obesity. Factor any treats (including bananas) into the daily calorie total — treats should not exceed 10% of daily calories.
Dachshunds can be prone to diabetes. High-sugar foods should be given very sparingly, and blood sugar should be monitored if your dog is diabetic.
Nutrition Notes
Rich in potassium, vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium, and fiber. About 14g of sugar per medium banana.
Serving Guidance
Small dogs: 2–3 small pieces. Medium dogs: half a banana. Large dogs: up to one banana. Limit to a few times per week.
Risks to Know
High sugar content can contribute to weight gain if overfed. Banana peels are not toxic but are difficult to digest and may cause intestinal blockage.
